Here we have an exceptional mid-1800s faience “talking” plate from Creil & Montereau (Creil, France) in one variation of a quite scarce pattern featuring workers harvesting various crops around the world. This one, which isn’t numbered, reads Recolte du Raisin en Bourgogne and features workers picking grapes for winemaking in the French region of Burgundy. Polychrome transferware pattern, with central scene in black, and a wide border in bright blue with an intricate arch pattern overlaid with the abundance of the harvest, including fruits (pears and grapes,) grains (wheat sheaths,) and various flora, including what appear to be hops and morning glory vines, among others. Scalloped rim. This is one of six plates from this pattern that we have available in our store — see the last photo showing the entire group, noting that the listing is only for the one shown in the rest of the photos. We have lots of fabulous transferware in our store, to which we add new inventory daily, and we’re always happy to combine shipping at actual cost. Vintage: Creil & Montereau mark in ink on back was used 1840-1876 Approximate measurements: 7.75″ in diameter Condition: Our photographs reveal the condition best — please enlarge and zoom in on them, and examine them carefully. Very clean and fresh piece, in extraordinary condition for a 175-year old plate. Color is vibrant, and transfers are free of wear and tear. Two fleabite flakes to the rim top center, and one tiny “bruise” to the left center edge of the scene, within the slim white border. See photos highlighting those. Otherwise, no cracks, chips, silver/gray utensil marks, stains, fading, or noticeable scratches. Two tiny, very light, completely colorless, surface scratches to the glaze, the kind that can be seen when the piece is held up at just the right angle to a bright source of light. We consider funky odors (cigarette smoke, mildew, etc) to be an important part of a condition report.
