For RS and LRS series 15W to 150W… click here The LRS series are low-cost mains AC to low voltage DC, quality power supplies… why are they so low-cost? It’s because they do NOT have active Power Factor Correction (see the explanation below) and can be made much more simple in design! The LRS series of power supplies have higher output current, are smaller in height with wider temperature operation and more efficient… up to 40% less heat dissipated! They also provide more than double the MTBF (Mean Time Before Failure) of other units. The LRS-350 (with higher output current) is a drop-in replacement for the RSP-320. BUT note that the RSP units provide active Power Factor Correction (PFC) and do not need a voltage doubling 115VAC/230VAC switch (most RSP units have remote ON/OFF and all provide output voltages of 7.5V, 13.5V and 27V). Also note that these Meanwell power supplies provide a DC “regulated” output and those less than 12V do not supply the wattage as suggested in the part no. (e.g. the LRS-350-5 provides 5V at 60A hence it supplies 5 x 60 = 300 Watts max. not 350 Watts). Voltages of 13.8V, 18V, 27.6V, 32V, 40V are possible. NOTE: Meanwell sets all voltages at 50% output current… an insulated pot adjust tool is recommended… connecting to ALL output terminals is recommended as damage to terminals or the PCB can occur otherwise! The Meanwell LRS-350 uses fan cooling. They all have hiccup current limiting on overload with automatic recovery (except LRS-350-48), plus OVP Over Voltage Protection and OTP Over Temperature Protection and a 3 year Australian warranty. Note the mention that cheap power supplies often DO NOT provide the full output voltage up to the specified output current! A word of caution here! In Australia the mains voltage is 240VAC compared to the USA of 115VAC. Power supplies (especially “no name” Chinese brands such as “Landy”) may be fine in the USA but may not be safe to use in Australia. Why risk it? Buy a quality power supply such as “Mean Well”. There are so many testimonials on the web for Creality Ender 3D printers having problems with the installed unit, I’d be thinking about exchanging it too. I’ve -never- replaced one in over 11 years, but I have replaced a lot of cruddy circuit boards designed or assembled by the less technically inclined (companies).”, 2. “But in the end I’ve learnt a lesson here and that is spend the extra cash and buy some quality power supplies like the meanwell brand or else you could be in for a very frustrating time but I don’t have the budget for that this year so I’ll have to deal with what I have (sad face)”. 3. I have used Chinese power supplies in numerous commercial applications where cost was a concern. Stepping away from the basic ebay units in my business, I find the Mean Well brand to be particularly reliable. 4. Need a decent power supply… I can recommend mean well supplies. They are low end industrial supplies but are good quality, much better than no-name chinese supplies you can get from ebay etc.. I use mean well in lots of equipment and have had very few failures in thousands of hours of run time. Beware of “fakes” and “look-a-likes” (with logos of “MWKJ” “M&W”, “MiWi”, “WH”, “WeHo”, “WaW”, “MN”, “MIEG WAEI”, “NWJS” for example) these are often cheap, low quality products that do not meet the regulatory/safety standards for use in Australia. Also beware of purchasing this product from overseas as an Australian Warranty will not be provided. This unit has exposed 240VAC terminals and must be installed inside a suitable enclosure according to local electrical authority regulations. On the issue of safety – there have been electrocutions (in Russia girls have dropped charging mobile phones in the bath, or in India a child simply put a USB plug from a charger in their mouth) which can be explained by the “cheap” components used in “cheap” Chinese power supplies, here’s a quote: “The real concern is about safety. As far as I can see, the Chinese SMPS has a standard 1nF 1kV suppression condenser between primary and secondary side instead of a safety self-healing one. This is a death trap, because it tends to fail dead short at overvoltage condition. Short kV spikes are quite common in mains – tens to hundreds a day – so if you have connected anything referenced to ground (even capacitive coupling is enough) to the output of such SMPS, the cap breaks down, leaving your secondary circuit galvanically connected to Live wire. The SMPS does not stop working, everything seems fine, only the trap is armed and waiting for it’s prey”. PLEASE download the PDF document “Buying electrical equipment online” from Energy Safe Victoria. ~SPECIAL NOTE: Compared to the RSP range, the HRP range and the UHP range (plus others which have active Power Factor Correction) the typical AC current with the LRS range is DOUBLED, indicating that the PF (Power Factor) is around 0.5 (compared to 0.95 with active PFC). What does this mean? You will not be able to use as many LRS power supplies on the one AC mains circuit and, of course, higher current means higher losses! i.e. wasted power.
