AN VERY BEAUTIFUL MINTY DIALLED FULLY WORKING ENGLISH 1934 SOLID 9 CARAT GOLD EXTREMELY SOUGHT AFTER AND VERY RARE JW BENSON ‘HERMETIC’ (SOMETIMES DESCRIBED AS AN (‘EXPLORER OR TROPICAL’) FRANCOIS BORGEL CASED WRIST WATCH. IMPORTANT!! PLEASE CHECK THE WATCH SIZE BEFORE BUYING!! CASE: The case to this beautiful rare watch is solid English fully hallmarked thick 9 CARAT GOLD. This is Francois Borgels inimitable RARE water and dust proof screw BEZEL design. It has NO personalizations to the case back and is in very good original condition with a no dings that I can see but a couple of light scuffs that will polish out through normal wear. I have gently polished the case, and it is shining nicely, as only solid gold can. THE WATCH MEASURES 3.1CMS (31mm) across excluding the lugs and crown. The inside of the back cover is fully hallmarked for solid 9 carat gold (London 1934) and is marked with the famous Borgel key stamp and the Brevet mark. The sponsors mark is SFC. and the case number is 901011 1167. DIAL: This lovely collectible watch has a its stunningly beautiful original brilliant white dial. It is fully signed ‘JW BENSON LONDON and SWISS MADE. It has NO hairlines that I can see with the eye and is in excellent condition. It has lovely sharp and crisp Arabic black painted numerals. The dial also has a subsidiary dial which is in excellent condition. The plastic crystal is flush fitting, is nearly new and is in excellent condition. The beautiful antique ‘Cathedral style’ original watch hands are in excellent condition and still have their luminous paint infill, which has now browned but is in excellent condition. MOVEMENT: This is a stunningly beautiful near mint Swiss made crown wind Cyma calibre 032k 16 jewel movement. The movement is numbered 809237. It has chaton set jewels and beautiful Geneva stripes This lovely wrist watch runs extremely well and winds and sets smoothly. As always, a full service would be recommended for optimum performance and timekeeping. It has the wording ‘Swiss made ‘stamped on it. The movement is complete with its original snap on metal dustcover whose stamped number matches the case number. It keeps good time as tested over a 24 hour period to with about a minute per day. The crown looks original and is in very good condition. BAND: This superb watch has a brand new 18mm black leather band fitted band with a gold tone buckle. The watch and band measure 8 1/2 inches in total length. The band is in excellent condition and is very wearable. Please remember that vintage watches have survived for many decades by being treated well. Vintage watches are not for wearing while doing yard work, working out, or swimming. Vintage watches cannot keep time like their quartz cousins and will need altering on average between +-2 to +-5 mins per day. They are a little more destructible than modern watches. Vintage watches also require periodic service and cleaning. Every couple of years, they would like their 20,000 mile checkup, oil change, and general service. By taking care of your vintage watch, you will have years of great service, and a quality heirloom to pass to another generation.
