They will be guaranteed vibrant and healthy and ready for transplanting. We do not ship with the pot as the pot allows for too much soil moisture evaporation. Angustifolia This herb is native to the Mediterranean; specifically Spain, France, and Italy. It is now widely cultivated. General Description: Lavender is known as ‘Queen of Herbs’ for herb gardens. This lavender is a dwarf shrub that is broadly mounded. Hardiness Zone: 5 to 8 Maintenance: Low Mature Height: 2 to 3 feet Mature Width: 2 to 3 feet Plant Details: Growth Habit: Broad, mounding, rounded and multi-stemmed with a medium growth rate. Leaf Structure: Narrow, grey-green needle-like leaves, fragrant when bruised or crushed. They measure 1 to 2 ½ inches long and up to ¼ inch broad. They are evergreen in warmer winter climates. Stem Structure: Young stems are square and slightly fuzzy. Bark Structure: Stems mature into round, rough, and somewhat woody branches. Soil Preference: Sand, Loam, Gravel. Well-drained. Water Preference: Light to medium. They do not like wet feet. Once established, they are known to be drought tolerant. Sunlight Preference: Full sun Bloom Time: June to August. Blooms tend to last 3 to 4 weeks. Bloom Color: Purple lavender, produced on spikes 1 to 3 inches long at the top of slender leafless stems 4 to 12 inches long. May get a second, smaller flush of flowers after pruning. Fruit Production: N/A Nut Production: N/A Main use of plant: Indoor: Grows well in containers. They will need to be placed in an area/window with full sun. Outdoor: Great for perennial borders, in mass plantings, rock gardens, herb gardens, edging along walkways, effective as an edger or low hedge. Winterization Methods: Adding a layer of mulch over the plants is recommended. Fun Fact: Previously known as Lavandula officinalis, which referred to its medicinal properties; angustifolia is Latin for ‘narrow leaf’. General Notes: Great for using the flowers in sachets and potpourris. Also used as a culinary herb for teas and in the French herb blend herbs de Provence. Fragrant flowers are attractive to butterflies and bees. Deer and rabbit resistant. We grow everything organically with a beneficial insect program. We do not use chemical fertilizers, pesticides or fungicides. We use a preventive program for pests with the use of Ladybugs, Green Lacewings, Praying Mantis, and Predatory Mites to battle soft bodied bugs and Nematodes in the soil to combat any soil dwelling pests.
