Before the revolution, residents of distant Chukotka were subjected to cruel exploitation. The representative of the Kamchatka Revolutionary Committee Elk and ethnographer Zhukov arrived here with the first Soviet ship. They were heading to Lauren’s camp. The news of the appearance of the Russian people quickly spread around the coast. Overcoming the resistance of the American buyer Thomson and the local rich man Alitet, Elk and Zhukov established fair trade laws and rallied the poor hunters around them. Member of the Union of Artists of the USSR. Vladimir Gavrilovich Kononov was born in 1924 in Perm. Studied at the Repin Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture under the supervision of V.V. Pochitalov and V.M. Oreshnikov. After graduating from IZHSA in 1955, he moved to Moscow. Kononov worked mainly in the genres of social and political posters and film posters, and executed a significant number of agricultural posters dedicated to grain growers. He worked in the creative-production workshop “Agitplakat” of the USSR Union of Artists. In the 1990s, due to negative phenomena in the country and a decline in interest in the art of poster, he began to actively engage in painting, painted still lifes and landscapes.
